Been playing three years now. I enjoy learning music theory and have been studying the Modern Method for Guitar book and JustinGuitar’s program. I have learned a lot of stuff but the attached video is where I’d like to be, albeit in 20 years. I have basically been learning the guitar through Jazz and Acoustic lessons when I really want to be playing metal. Any comrades have recommendations on a course/book/pathway to concentrate my efforts? Thank you.
P.S. I really dislike the singing in the vid but the guitar is awesome.
Hi! Not sure where you are at with your skills so just general tips.
I would focus on these things first. Scales > economy picking/alternate picking/ finger tapping > sweeping.
If you aren’t already, try practicing with your metronome at a faster tempo over time. Start at 65 BPM and then increase in increments of 5 or 10 BPM
Find a song you would like to play and break the composition into smaller segments that you could grasp. It might not even be a full bar. Learn each segment until you can put it back together again.
got a couple of scales down. I will start looking into these techniques. thank you!
I found a YouTube link in your post. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
