A team of Medical University of South Carolina researchers partnered with Charleston County Emergency Medical Services to test the feasibility of equipping an ambulance with a portable MRI scanner to improve stroke response. The pilot study, published in the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, demonstrates that diagnostic-quality images can be obtained in a moving ambulance, suggesting the potential of this approach to speed up stroke decision-making.
