Does this inconvenience the wealthy? Yes
Are the wealthy the cause of the issue being protested? Yes
Did this publicize the cause? Yes
I can’t find major fault with them, good protest. My only issue is that it didn’t quite go far enough.
I don’t see a problem with that, although i think its not going to do anything.
There is nobody that doesn’t know about the issue, either people already care, they are insignificant about it or are just to poor to do anything.
We disrupted a @ChristiesInc auction today. The disruption was far less harmful than the devaluation that climate change will have on the world’s art masterpieces.
Sorry but this achieve nothing. This activism does two things, it makes the those participating feel righteous and gives the press a great story to denigrate activism.
Neither helps.
People get mad at climate protesters for throwing things on art and tell them to protest rich people propagating climate change instead. Here they are, finally protesting against the rich and people still find things to get mad at them about.
Yeah, because the pearl-clutching was never honest to begin with.
It’s hardly a new thing, after all – MLK called out the same types back in the day.
Whiny reactionaries are worthless and deserve to be ignored.
Sorry but your example is the same as the original one.
Performance that does nothing.
And what are you doing to help?
I just got back from watering the community garden I volunteer at for about 12 hours every week. One of the main projects we have been working on for the past few months is expanding our community composting program.
I live in a reasonable dense city area and we have several hundred people who use the compost facility to stop the food waste going into landfill.
We are quadrupling the capacity as it has become so popular in the past few years that we are struggling to keep up.
We sell the compost to fund other activities in the garden.
Including biding hives for native bees, running workshops for worm farms for those that do have garden space and giving away native plants that feed the local bee population.
I also volunteer 4 hours a week at my local state member of parliament’s office (green party).
I do not own a car and walk or take public transport everywhere.
What do you do?..
In terms of what me and you do it’s nothing more than a whistle in a storm.
I’m a teacher for refrigeration and air conditioning so I’m teaching the next generation of engineers and technicians to understand alternative refrigerants to use that are less environmentally damaging and how to properly dispose of the old ones. I’m teaching them how to keep refrigeration systems up and running by properly maintaining them and ensuring proper efficiency and alternative power sources but most importantly to reduce the likelihood of leaks on a system as the refrigerant itself is the biggest environmental issue with the industry.
What these people do by inconveniencing the super rich is what matters. The corporations dumping chemicals or rich people running their yachts and private jets are the biggest issues of today and until they stop, your garden and any of my teaching doesn’t make the slightest bit of difference.
Still though. Good on you, as long as it’s true.
A man literally immolated himself in front of the Supreme Court and it was largely ignored. Disrupting things rich people like gets coverage and prompts people to remember we’re sleepwalking our way to disaster.
And who are the people you imagine are going to negatively react to a frivolous event for the super rich getting disrupted? Someone could have done that for literally no reason at all and I’d say “good job, more like that”.
it’s true, this man has no dick.
