:coolest-poland: or something along this lines, the little Polish minority we have on lemmygrad and hexbear could use a nice emoji.
This is the Polish People’s Republic coat of arms.
LET’S FUCKING GOOOOOO
Death to kings and plutocrats!
Aren’t eagles an imperialist symbol? I understand this one has a lot of significance for the people of poland I’m just wondering why the communist government didn’t do away with it.
The eagle is a historical symbol of Poland that is with us since around year 1000, so very close to the “official” inception of the nation through christendom. It is very recognizable to every Pole and ingrained itself as part of our historical image.
I’d like to add, that today and even back in the interwar period, the preferred version of the eagle in the eyes of capitalists and imperialists is the crowned version. Socialists didn’t choose the uncrowned eagle without reason, as historically it has been a symbol for democrats and freedom fighters of the partition era, including during the Cracovian uprising of 1846 which Marx and Engels both supported: https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godło_Polski#/media/Plik:Coat_of_arms_of_the_Kraków_Uprising.svg

This support from Marx and Engels probably was influential in deciding to keep the eagle, but remove it’s connotation to monarchism and imperialism. And in my eyes, it is the crown that is the problem. Not the eagle. And even nowadays the contemporary symbolism of the uncrowned eagle is it’s association with communism and communists. Thus my decision to submit it as it’s very recognizable to all Polish people and it lacking a crown clearly shows your political side.
When critiquing a liberal, he could be confused and consider you a far-rightist. You could quickly respond “My eagle has no crown idiot!” and he would immediately know you are a commie without saying it outright.
Very interesting! Thanks for the thorough answer.
