Secure and legal 3rd party storage options are absolutely a good thing.
I don’t hate this idea. It makes sense to have the service initially at a gun store, but I have some mild reservations about leaving a gun in someone’s hands indefinitely when they have the ability to sell it. An attached but separate business would be a little more preferable to me to prevent “mix ups” that could occur.
I do like the idea though. As a hunter and recreational shooter who had fought undiagnosed depression for many years, I just made it personal policy to refrain from even touching alcohol or guns when it was hitting me too hard. Having a legit place to store guns no questions asked would be a good option for anyone that could make things a little less tempting for others. The no stigma of no questions asked is a huge plus, since many, especially in the greater firearms community can scoff at things like mental health.
ETA: Been diagnosed and treated for about 8 years now and my life has made a total 180. Talk to your doctor right away. I just brought it up finally one day at a physical, they gave me medicine that even when I had no insurance was less than $20 a month, and life is a million times better now. I spent 20 years losing friendships and being miserable all the time because I was too stubborn to ask and afraid it was too expensive and that I could just tough it out. Don’t wait, just ask for help.
