Of course, the western capitalists have always used whatever tools they have at their disposal to exploit and oppress the global south. If they didn’t, their class position and relative power would be eroded. A global south with independent and self-sufficient energy and food resources is a extreme threat to the international rules based order.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this

No shit? Rich countries want to rest on their laurels and put a token effort towards the climate problem.
If you want to see what kind of investment is needed to actually solve the climate problem, look at China.
No democracy is going to greenlight that level of spending.
Just to clarify so that I don’t misunderstand; are you using China as an example of a country with good climate change policies?
While trying to claim China isn’t rich or capitalistic…
I think, but don’t hold me to it, they’re talking on how since China isn’t exactly democratic, things get pushed through a lot quicker, like climate policies. I wouldn’t say it’s China’s intention to look like the “green superpower”, just that it gives a better geopolitical look to China. Just to make clear, I don’t support China, and likely never will without some national revolution and major reform (cough cough, fuck the CCP), only giving my thoughts.
The CCP puts more effort into appearing green because they think it’s more cost effective. Lower level bureaucrats just put on a show for the day or week a higher up or press tour is coming around. They literally paint their lawns green.
Unironically yes.
China, one of the most egregious polluters?
