Cell service on the TTC needs to be a priority
I seriously can’t believe this is still an issue. I remember having a train break down mid-tunnel and being unable to call work to let them know I’d be late… a decade ago.
I’ve been to numerous other countries and not only had no issues with cellular service underground (malls, subways) but it was fast as well. Canadians get shafted so badly by the incumbent providers
Take it up with Robellus. They can’t come to an agreement.
Routers exist but the big 3 didn’t want to pay a fee to connect to them and provide service, Iirc Freedom is the only company that does. They didn’t like that the TTC didn’t go with one of them to install the infrastructure. Either way cell service isn’t going to do anything to prevent this.
What we’re seeing here are symptoms of larger societal problems. People are being pushed to their limits and we refuse to find social services. This is the result.
Bring. Back. Asylums.
Oh absolutely we need to fund social services better, but in the meantime can we at least push (our reps to push) the Big 3 to allow people to stay connected.
It won’t fix the problem, but that’s not what I’m talking about when I say we should be able to call or text on the subway.
“It’s going to be either you live for another day, or you get stabbed on TTC, or you get a car, and it’s not really that easy. It makes me feel like TTC is actually not really that safe anymore and they’re not doing anything about it.”
Nobody tell this person about how cars are significantly more dangerous than the TTC…
Even if you’re a pedestrian or a cyclist, your biggest risk during a commute is getting hit by someone else’s car. The TTC is statistically the safest way to commute.
I’m a big anti-car person (I’m middle aged and gave never owned one) and that made me roll my eyes. Someone should tell them about that, actually. And that the media doesn’t report on that is ridiculous (though I suppose it’s not the point of this particular story).
Just saw the video on TikTok. No one even attempted to trip the guy or anything. They all just ran.
Sad.
easy to say…
