Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said Tuesday his party will oppose the government’s proposed capital gains inclusion rate increase — a tax hike that is projected to pull in roughly $19 billion in new revenue.

Weeks after the budget was tabled, Poilievre finally made his position known when he stood in the House of Commons to blast the Liberals’ plan and their so-called “high tax agenda.”

Poilievre’s team also released a 15-minute social media video narrated by the leader to explain why the party is taking a stand against a policy that disproportionately affects wealthy people and big corporations.

“Businesses, jobs, doctors and food production will leave Canada,” Poilievre says in the video.

Dude has never held an hourly-paid job and became a multi-millionaire from his time in politics.

He doesn’t give a rat’s ass about most of the Canadian population.

But he uses the right buzz words, just gotta say “I’m not Trudeau” “that’s woke” and “evil LGBTQ agenda” etc and the right will eat it up like pigs eating slop out of a trough.

r/Canada is such a fucking shithole these days, it’s never been good, but it’s insane how badly that sub is astroturfed these days. I’d be shocked if more than a quarter of regular commentors there are even Canadian or have even been here.

This time will be different, honest. This time when we give billions of dollars of tax cuts to our rich donors and a hundred bucks to each of you our rich donors will turn those billions into better, higher paying jobs for everyone! We know that that has never happened ever anywhere in human history but this will be the first time. Vote for me, I’m not Justin Trudeau!

the party is taking a stand against a policy that disproportionately affects wealthy people and big corporations.

What about every single other policy that’s even tangentially related to affordability that disproportionately affects everyone who isn’t wealthy and small businesses?

Never having voted Conservative, I can’t get any real satisfaction from saying “that’s so stupid I’m never voting for them again.”

I guess I can say “That’s so stupid I’m still never voting for them.” But it isn’t the same.

I wonder what the projected revenue would’ve been on a threshold of $1M or $750k instead of $250k.

This is such bullshit. The new capital gains tax only will affect a very small percentage of the population. I hate PP.

Doesn’t he own a dozen investment properties, and that’s how he explains his dramatic increase in wealth over the course of his years in parliament?
