My humble start to vaping. I outgrew this device pretty quickly, but it’s not bad for $100, and it showed me a better world than combustion.
And for that, I’m thankful.
Awesome! The Xmax V3 Pro is a heck of a nice entry-level vaporizer. I wish it would have existed ten years ago and maybe we could have converted more people to vaporizing! Lol.
I personally prefer session mode more than on-demand.
Pro tip - Fury Edge/POTV One capsules fit the oven on the Xmax v3 Pro. This makes life easier for refilling on the go. AND useful for microdosing: Put a tiny bit of herb in the oven, and then use an empty capsule (with or without cap depending on size of microdose) to hold things in place during the session. Microdosing is a great way to reduce consumption.
It’s been a long way XD. I’m just glad that the days that the only mass produced convection vapes were basically the firefly, minivap and grasshopper are long gone. When I bought my first vape I “had to” buy the ff2 since all the other options were basically conduction session vapes. It was great (although very picky about technique) and lasted for years, but $250 for a first vape is a huge risk for a beginner.
See I’ve never been a big fan of the Firefly vaporizers - I’m a clean freak and I always hated how they have the top plate with foam gaskets creating an air tight seal. Shame too because I like the design of the device overall. (The original FF1 was a heavy big ass device, but it was pretty cool to look at. The FF2 is a bit smaller and more manageable in the pocket)
I was lucky I guess as when 1 session a day\night is enough for you, you don’t feel it much. But I get you, these days I totally get how hussle free the maintenance can be, stem packing is the shit!
My real issue was how hard it was to share it with friends. It’s not only that you need to take a convection style hit, but you need to feel the vaporizer and find the correct draw speed (usually when you do it makes the ff2 whistle lol). So yeah my friends has a no-vapor hits almost every time which made it harder for them tp get the vaporization thing. These days I just let them hit the glow whatever they want and it delivers :), the only “requirement” I tell them is to do a couple of cigar puffs.
Hell yeah, i agree with capsules. I used them in every device I own.
Pro tip - Fury Edge/POTV One capsules fit the oven on the Xmax v3 Pro.
That’s true, but they don’t work very well in my experience (the ones I have at least). There are dedicated v3 Pro dosing caps that are lighter weight and have no holes on the sides that work much much better.
Strange, I have an older Xmax V3 pro from at least a year ago and they fit my Fury Edge capsules with no problem. Didn’t know that Xmax makes their own dedicated capsules these days.
The ones I have are pretty thick metal, lid screws on and they have holes on the side. Those suck because they take a long time to heat up. The V3 ones have no holes on the sides, only top and bottom and they are much lighter/thinner walls, so much better for convection.
Wow! That’s totally not the ones that I have for my Fury Edge. The dosing capsules I have always used have lids which pop off. I honestly have never seen any capsules which screw on like you’re referring for the HealthyRips so I’d love to see photos (it’s my job to keep track of all capsules on the market… since I make loading and storage options for nearly every capsule on the market).
Funny because also my capsules both for the Fury Edge, HealthyRips Rogue, and my new POTV Lobo which just arrived today with several dozen capsules all have air holes on the bottom and top, but not the sides.
Wait, I think I know what capsules you’re referring to, but I don’t think they’re made by the same OEM I’m referring to - I’m not sure if those were an experimental capsule, or from another manufacturer. Because I think I’ve seen those, but I have never had access to them personally.
All my capsules match the ones you described for the Xmax V3 Pro (minus the original HealthyRips Fury2 mini screen capsules and S&B dosing capsules)
I wasn’t exactly accurate with my statement tbf, the capsules I have are for the Fenix mini, one of the bazillion fury clones. Bought from verdampftnochmal (German shop). I imagine they work well for conduction vapes. Not at home rn but I’ll try to remember to send you a pic!
I noticed that since Lemmy is still pretty low traffic, every time I post something, it gets a negative score for a while. Is that because it makes it to /c/all and non-vapers get upset?
Yeah I guess (hope) people see it when browsing all, and instead of blocking the community they downvote. Otherwise it’s deliberate trolling :S
Its probably downvotes. I just upvoted and got it back to 0.
I won one of these in a giveaway. I’m pretty excited to have a portable device. I don’t think it’s going to out do my zirc zeal when I’m at home though 😂
Haha, yeah. The v3 is a toy by comparison. You can effect weather patterns with the clouds you’re blowing from the zeal.
Love mine as a beater vape for taking with me everywhere. Vape + 5 dosing caps usually lasts me well for a day/evening out, it doesn’t take up a lot of space and people don’t give you a second look when using it in public because they assume it’s some kind of e-cig. And it extracts well and tastes okayish for most of the sesh.
Wouldn’t use it at home, but I got a sizeable collection of great vapes to choose from. For someone with low budget, it’d be feasible as only vape too I imagine!
What made you decide to abandon it?
What device you graduate to?
- It’s more of a sipper than a ripper
- It has a tendency to burn if you aren’t careful
- Flavor chasing
- Increased use
My main is the TM2 (ripper), with a Mighty+ (sipper) on the side for longer relaxed sessions, such as when I’m watching a movie, or chatting with a friend.
Both have superior flavor, power and quality. The ecosystem for the TM2 is especially nice.
I first started DHV over a decade ago, but had moved to carts for discretion. That long ago, the flavor from the vape (desktop box with whip) was meh, it usually ended up tasting like popcorn.
After moving from a legal state to one with a thriving grey market, I had the displeasure of experiencing sticker shops, and mystery boof juice vapes.
It scared me enough to quit vaping cartridges cold turkey and try combustion again. I hated combustion, bought a v3 pro and my mind was blown.
It’s safe to say I love Dry Herb Vaping and I think everyone should give it a shot with a device at least as good as the v3 pro, but ideally try and Mighty+ or TM2. I’m not pushing ball vapes yet, but the tempest looks doooope.
What is it about a vaporizer that makes it have better flavor over another?
I’ve never felt like I was missing something from the flavor of my POTV Xmax Pro V3. If I want lots of flavor, I use a lower temp.
I use exclusively session mode because I dislike holding down buttons for so long, but I’ll take one good hit then immediately turn it off. I don’t actively have a “session”. To maximize flavor, I’ll use a middling temperature and do little cigar puffs to let some vapor enter my nose before I inhale it. If I need more, I’ll do another one-hit session. The flavor eventually wears out, of course, no matter how you vape it.
It’s definitely is easy to burn your flower in session mode if you forget about it and set it down. In that regard, it’s more of a hybrid vape instead of a purely convection one since heat is conducting into the flower through the very thin metal of the oven.
This can be a benefit if managed correctly. You can set a medium-high temperature then wait with session mode on for some prescribed amount of time to preheat well-packed flower, allowing you to take a huge rip, if thats your thing. I only know this because, being a one-hit-wonder, I dont like huge rips, and I’ve done this by accident a number of times.
So, I really like the way I use this vape, and the flavor is fantastic. That said, I’d LOVE to hear that other vapes have significantly better flavor along with a good reason why that would be the case. Then I’d probably upgrade, too.
I wouldn’t call the difference significant. If you are happy with the taste, stick with it. It is a tasty vape if you keep it at low temps, avoid burning your flower, and keep your stems clean.
It will not produce vapor as quickly or effectively as vape in a better class. If you don’t need that, or other perks of a high class vape, stick with what you have.

Vape Acquisition Syndrome
One of the best options for newbies imo. I used a non potv v3p for a while when I had no access to my vape and it works really well, and now I use it as a intro vape to give friends when introducing DHV(Dry herb vaping) to them. Would love to try these dimpled glass mouthpieces on a v3p someday!
Edit: A nice tip I learned over at FC is to cover both sides of the bottom air-holes when inhaling, and if you want to force that full convection, you can turn off the heater a bit before you stop inhaling, so you cool down the chamber and herb, and use the session mode as on demand, just for not pressing the button (just turn off when you’d leave the power button at on demand mode).
