His intervention helped to pave the way for imperialism’s counter-offensive to recover the positions lost throughout the 20th century and impose its hegemony on a world level, with the serious consequences that this entailed for workers’ rights, the sovereignty of peoples, security in Europe and peace in the world, as evidenced by the wars in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Ukraine, among others.
