Why should he be asked. This is a long term appointment for club(hopefully) and the coach who will most probably not stay that long should have no say in this.
Since he will spend a lot of time working together with the new hiring, it might seem like a decent thing to do, regarding he worked as manager of chelsea in england, where the model is different. But as professionals, it is not needed per se. Still seems odd and a little too hierarchically to me.
