I’m attending an all day workshop tomorrow with a bunch of leaders at my job and I expect this is a better summary of the upcoming proceedings than anything else in existence.
That’s awesome.
The PG&E comments, not the earth scorched by lightning.
Ancient times? If I had stepped out and seen that this morning shit would be shat.
I mean, someone has to be the first person to watch the beginning of the end of the world, right? My lizard brain would have instantly decided I was the lucky person.
When things like this don’t make sense there is a tried and true method that usually sheds some light on it: Follow. The. Money.
I don’t claim to have some knowledge of some deep state actors or even understand the nuances of late stage capitalism. But, I do understand some writer, reporter, or publisher not wanting to have to explain to their family that they’re moving to a van down by the river because they wouldn’t write an article that didn’t explicitly call bullshit on some billionaires people-based checkers game. It is easy to compromise on a story, then another.
That’s just my hypothetical for this comment, but extrapolate to everything else we’re seeing that just seems batshit insane and yet is being reported on as nothing more than slight variations on business as usual or two sides with slightly different ideological views. You start to feel like the only sane person in the asylum and it drives you mad.
I’d give them a little more credit than that. They also calculate if the planet will outlive them by at least a minute and then maximize gains in the interim.
Seriously. Can we stop this ridiculous obsession with “generational” comparisons, please, and the click bait that goes with it? Let’s instead start learning empathy and stop trying to force fit everything into an arbitrary category. Can we really not, collectively, as a species, grasp nuance and the eternally changing state of everything?
Probably not, but here’s to hoping.
Put your salami in that and it’s gonna come out looking like chorizo
Pure poetry. Your words have convinced me to keep my junk outta exotic fruits.
Absolutely. Nothing suffered or died to produce it so I wouldn’t consider it unethical. I realize most people wouldn’t be able to get past the “human” label.
Edit: not actually a vegan so not sure my vote counts in this thread.
Genuinely the best thread on Lemmy in a fortnite. Thank you.
Best of luck, friend. Hope everything works out for you.
Had a plumber friend joke that what he learned in plumbing school was, “Shit flows downhill and payday is Friday.” As an adult I think plumbers really earn their money when the shit is flowing the wrong direction. Here’s to a great career filled with… Interesting challenges.
Is your farm specialty growing plants or animals? Or both?
My family has dabbled in chickens, horses, and goats. But we can’t grow a plant that isn’t a weed.
You deserve a raise! On Lemmy, at least.
If you work for a large-ish company you should look into getting ergonomic accomodations sooner than later. In the US anyway many companies want to avoid the workman’s comp claims from repetitive stress injuries like carpal tunnel and whatever debilitating circulation issues sitting in a crap chair 8 hours daily causes.
First, good on you. As a corpo wage slave who would not be good at either dressing up or removing said dressing, color me envious.
Second, any particular fandom pay the bills better than others?
Now that I’m asking I realize I probably don’t actually want to know.
I love the vagueness! Could be many things and sets the imagination whirring.
I also love this comment because it implies the existence of an “unhelpful professional” which is a wonderful distinction.
Your money or someone else’s?
I taught myself to weld (poorly, of course) but I love the satisfaction of joining two pieces of metal well, and getting in the zone and laying down a clean bead to be proud of.
I often wondered but don’t know any welders to ask personally… Does doing it professionally take the fun out of it?
True, if the justice system retains any of its authority under the next administration. Our laws and the institutions that uphold them are just constructs that can be influenced, dissolved, or repurposed.
Vote, people.
