  • As true as that may be, what’s the deal with all the times I’ve read stories of people setting up and configuring everything the way they want, and then after installing whatever particular updates manually, then MS reverts a bunch of settings back the way they want?

I dunno, but when I got my HP laptop that shipped with Windows 10, I got to an initial setup screen that asked me something like what’s my mother’s middle name or maiden name or something like that, for sake of password recovery I believe.

Even though I’m sure I could have entered in any random nonsense that I’d remember, I was like what effing business is it of the OS to ask such private details?

I didn’t even finish the setup and first boot, I shut it down right then and formatted and installer Linux Mint MATE 20, and I couldn’t be happier.

  • We rode out Katrina near the Mississippi Gulf Coast back in 2005, in a run down trailer made in 1979. We didn’t board up the windows, matter of fact we did exactly the opposite.

We opened all the windows and doors, to allow the air pressure changes easier to try to equalize. We sat in the living room, no power, just a battery powered radio, watching the walls ‘breathe’, if you will…

Scary shit yo, but our beater trailer survived. About 45 minutes after the strong winds started to settle down, suddenly the water level raised about a foot and a half, only a couple inches from coming in our front door. Luckily we were on high enough ground that we didn’t get water in the trailer. Luckily.

We were two weeks without power, but at least my dad was smart enough to be prepared with a 400 gallon tank of chlorinated ground water. People though he was crazy for having that much treated water prepared, until Katrina hit, then he was sharing the water with all the neighbors.

TL;DR - Stay safe out there, and prepare early.

  • I was perma-banned from Reddit after 7 years for mentioning facts about Elon Musk and his Boring Company’s Not a Flamethrower contraption. No hate speech, nothing obscene or gory, just plain facts, with supporting links. I appealed twice, they denied my appeal.

I’ve left my account intact though, but have highly debated with myself whether to use one of the mass overwrite services to edit all my posts and comments into pure random garbage, then rewrite all of that again to say FUCK SPEZ!!!

From my understanding, they keep a backup of your previous comments before your edit, so it’s necessary to overwrite it at least twice, or they can just flip the switch and restore all your mass edited comments.

The only reason I haven’t done it yet is because my account still allows me to view communities tagged as NSFW, but hell, the only time I visit Reddit anymore is when someone happens to toss me an interesting link.

IDGAF if the AI has already ‘learned’ things from my posts, I probably partly corrupted it’s digital brain anyways. Many of my posts were factual, some were random rants, and a good number of them were just lighthearted trolling.

If I stumbled into a post showing some sort of random roadkill or some nasty shit, half the time I might be like ‘Are you gonna eat that?’. Yes, I might be partly to blame for why AI has such a poor concept of food consumption. 😂🤣

    Obligatory FUCK SPEZ!!!

  • It’s definitely not a top notch phone, so don’t expect it to be a powerhouse of a gaming phone or whatever, but it’s actually a pretty decent phone to be fair.

It doesn’t have many sensors, only the accelerometer, light, proximity, and significant motion sensors, so don’t expect it to work with RFID or NFC devices either. No compass sensor either ☹️

But where it lacks in power and features, it makes up for in an amazing battery life, plus even the stock Android ain’t too damn bad. 👍

  • Guess not, but as far as I ever knew, M$ has been known to try to maintain backwards compatibility for longer than most users would even consider necessary.

    XP supported DirectX 7/8/9

I would have figured that would have continued on with future versions of Windows, but I guess Satya Nadella decided to scrap backwards compatibility.

Oh well, all the more reason I switched to Linux as my main daily runner after Windows 8 came out. 🤷‍♂️
