I cant fucking stand the Emperor. At first the Dream Guardian didn’t seem that bad a person, the always had this air of holding back information and were kind of pushy but they were just another player in combating the Mind Flayer threat. Then the reveal happened, that they were a mind flayer themselves and gave the, admittedly fair, excuse that we wouldnt have trusted them at all if they had came out at the beginning that they were an Illithid. From there I tried to keep an open mind towards them, they had been doing what they could to keep me alive and we had a common goal so no reason to distrust them even if I felt that they were 100% trustworthy. Then they betrayed me because I told them no.

The Emperor is like a shitty toxic BF. He spends most of the game reminding you how he saved your life and that you two are in this together, constantly telling you that you need to trust him and having minor hissy fits whenever you don’t, the one time he cant eavesdrop on you conversation he had a breakdown and demands to read your text messages know what you discussed, and he constantly lies through omission. He wasn’t the one keeping you safe, it was Orpheus and he was using that power to keep us controlled, only extending the protection to people he deemed valuable or that would keep us in his debt. Duke Stelmane was supposedly his best friend but she was being controlled by some unnamed mind flayer which eventually lead to her having a stroke. Dude isn’t Balduran, he’s just a mind flayer with his memories who uses everyone around him and discards anyone who doesn’t wanna tell him that he’s right all the time. I’m finishing up the game today and man I cant wait to throw him over the edge of a nautaloid.
