A career civil servant described tension between their commitment to challenging rights abuses and their job.

ā€œIā€™m trying to educate people about Palestine through social media, but Iā€™m worried Iā€™ll lose my security clearance for criticizing the president or blaming the U.S. for civilian massacre,ā€ they told HuffPost. ā€œI feel like thereā€™s no place for me in America anymore, and Iā€™m on thin ice with my clearance because of my heritage and because I care about my people dying.ā€

The seemingly stifled internal debate undercuts Bidenā€™s narrative that his administration is historically diverse and open to perspectives from traditionally marginalized groups, including on questions of global affairs.

Remember the neocons who perpetrated the horrific, illegal, failed Iraq & Afghanistan wars and the related illegal torture program? Well theyā€™re in top positions of power under Biden right now. They didnā€™t get trials or punishments, they got promotions.

You donā€™t get ahead in Washington by having a moral backbone; you get ahead by proving youā€™ll do the most heinous, compromising things imaginable when asked to.
