I had believed that I was always alone – the only one who knew the secret. The only one who could do what I could do.
But today I learned the truth – the terrible, awful truth.
There is another.
This is my story – this is the story of James Braxton and Callista Hicks, and their forbidden knowledge that the world – the universe is getting smaller.
Welcome to “Contractions”
It has been a week, and James and Callista have yet to return from their trip.
I am worried that they have been caught, and that I might have to break the promise I made to them, and to my twins.
If only I could ask the others for advice, but to do that I would have to tell them the truth, which would condemn them to the same fate as James, Cally and I – and that is something I just can’t do.
So I will wait, at least for now.
James and Cally finally returned, but it is not good news.
The changes in the world are becoming more pronounced – other people are starting to notice. The parts of history people had forgotten are starting to seep back into people’s memories – the cat that ruled England for 230 days for one – and other parts that people should remember but don’t – the time we had an honest, reliable and trustworthy Prime Minister.
The contractions are starting to not only pull the fabric of history apart, but the world as well. Yesterday the news reported that “the moon looked bigger than ever before” but passed it off as an anomaly due to the way the light was interacting with pollution in the sky.
It wasn’t that – it was because the space between the earth and the moon had vanished and the moon was 5 times closer than it should have been. Thankfully the repair team managed to fix the problem, but if problems like this persist we will have far more to worry about thatn people remembering the frog prince.
I just hope the research data James and Cally have brought with them will solve the problem.
Otherwise things will not end well.
The data didn’t help.
I was right – it did not end well.
I have only just returned from the void.
