He can’t be popular with Argentina right now.

Imagine putting the cup at risk for a player who played about 100 minutes the whole tournament.

This is really shit, especially considering that at least in Argentina it was totally inconsequential (I don’t know about Seville because I didn’t see their games that’s why I don’t include it) he only played 2 games against Arabia that Argentina lost anyway and more or less half time with Australia where he did not have a leading role

but that won’t avoid the controversy

Argentines put all their effort on the try to win it. Maybe the most passional country in football world.

He was not called again after WC and of course he is being hated for being selfish.

What happens when you betray a passional being?..Rage.

Honestly it seems very irresponsible to his own career and even disrespectful to his teammates if he did it knowingly and if his version of the cough syrup is true it would still seem like an extremely stupid thing to do. Why the hell does a team have a medical team if the players are going to self-medicate anyway without even consulting them if what they are planning to take won’t cause any problems? Especially considering that athletes have a list of substances that they should not introduce into their bodies.

FIFA knew he was under investigation even before the World Cup, yet let him play. Corruption has no limits when certain players need their legacy cemented.

Ah yes, because Papu Gomez was so key to Argentina winning the World Cup, no way would they have won it if he was banned before the tournament and they took a different player instead.

He should have went to Real Madrid. There you just throw a fit and cry and the club will block the doping test.

Back in the glorious 90s, two Marseille players that were designated for anti-doping control were substituted mid-game, taken directly to a car and sent back to Marseille. That was when OM was all-powerful.

I must be missing something, how are there people in this thread who seem to think that if a player from Argentina’s World Cup squad tested positive for a PED now, it would count as a second strike again them?
