It always confused me how Barcelona with prime Messi both had no impact or chance vs Bayern but then Real Madrid with Ronaldo won every single time

Well, one of those times included an offside goal and the other time a big Ulreich-Rafinha blunder. The biggest disappointing defeat was the 4-0 in Munich with the best squad Pep had, he was completely outcoached (or according to Lahm’s book, the players basically forced him to change his tactics).

Bartomeu really did kill the barca dna by signing players that didnt fit the system during madrids 3 peat. In addition as good as rackitic was, he could never touch xavi’s boots, this forced iniesta to perform xavis role and messi in turn performed iniestas role and even scored a shit ton, however, when it came to KOs against top opposition, all they had to do was shut messi out and that was it, suarez’s poor form in ucl didnt help either.

I’m happy we’ve put him into that Sturridge 18/19 or Ledley King 09/10 for Spurs role. So we’re not reliant on him week to week but when he is fit he can make massive contributions.

I like Liverpool but I don’t understand this take on Thiago’s availability from a lot of fans. Especially after last season’s midfield struggles.

Meh that year we had lot of issues. Manager who barely gave his time to the club due to having cancer, we signed Song instead of proper CB, let seidu Keita go who was amazing sub either as CM or CDM, not selling Fabregas, not benching Pique who was shit entire year etc.

That team was just Messi’s work before his career changing injury. Our club issues started when we gave Bartomeu power in 2015. As long as we don’t modernise the selection or removal of the board, we may face similar issues.

“Career changing” I find that funny because I think he had the best year of his career after this lol.

I remember finishing work that day just around the time the second half of the second match started (from memory, I could be mistaken). I was optimistic after the first round, but not wanting to count my chickens, but I remember my phone buzzing a bunch and finally stopped off at a store to get some dinner for the evening and saw the score and ran into the nearest sport pub I could find to catch the very end, didn’t see any of the goals of the second match, which was a shame, but was still shocked it was that “Easy” and Barca hadn’t come to make it difficult at home. Must have watched the replay 2-3 times that night though.

This is a clip of a 6 part documentary (produced by FC Bayern) from their defeat against Barca in 2009 up to the CL victory in 2013 called “Generation Wembley”. It’s a great watch with lots of interviews with players, coaches etc. from Bayern and their rivals. I was the most impressed by Petr Czech dissecting the Finale 2012 penalty shootout. The doc really shows just what a great team this was.

I rate that so much higher than the 8-2. That Barca team was a monster and we made them look lost over two games.

While this point is true, the 8-2 is still head and shoulders above imo because it’s so funny that Coutinho came on and gave his parent club an extra helping of the beatdown they were already receiving…

Yes, it was a monster in the first half of the season, but also you need to consider that moment the team was tearing apart after Tito Vilanova sickness, if i remember well, Roura directed the team since March and the team was kinda disconnected, having struggles in the second tie against PSG on QF.

Therefore, Bayern was a monster that season, and only BVB really can compete with them in the final.

That Barça team was great but it was a very weird season that. With the coach being diagnosed with cancer, Messi picking up that infamous hamstring injury and constantly rushing back to be there in that CL KO run.

Awful loss regardless but imo that 8-2 was way more inexcusable.

2013 UCL should be pretty famous for it’s twist in the semis. La Liga was at an all time high attendence and everyone was waiting the Classico in the final.

What happened was Dortmund’s Lewa hatricking in Madrid and Bayern crushing Barcelona 4-0 in Munich.

Bayern got a pass for going 3-0 up in the first leg with 3 illegal goals. Still bothers me to this day.
