Eh. Same recycled story as the Animal Crossing letters from mom story. Or an even earlier version where their sister/girlfriend/etc etc left a note on some game they were playing, or a version from 5000 years ago where a scroll they were transcribing had a note from a friend who recently died from yellow fever or whatever.

It’s the way the mom letters are delivered through the in-game mail. The game isn’t incidental to the story like in here - the very mechanics of how the game works are inherently important to the method of the delivery of the message.

We can see through the veil on this one because Zelda here could easily be anything. Could be a movie. Could be a board game. Could be a bike. But you could not replace animal crossing, and if you did, it could not work as well with the same characters (message in a MMO? Why is your Mom playing a MMO???)

Mom story had the better worldbuilding.

No video game has ever or will ever invoke the global emotional response that films or literature do. The artists making them are creatively throttled by the gaming industry and emotionally stunted by the culture. The market is beyond flooded. Twitch culture is just plain sad. It offers no knowledge or inspiration save for walkthroughs (which are for pussies). The fuckwads that treat video games like actual athletics are fucking cringe and those that are actually the best are getting abused by their sponsors because nobody gives a fat fuck. The real accomplishment was creating the product not the nameless sheep that play it.

For specifics, Texas Saw is better than DBD but immediately broken by speedrunners. Without randomized levels it’s toast. The Quarry was a joke. Give me actual filmed cutscenes and the style of gameplay is dated and cheap. I’d rather just watch Banderdnatch. The Last of Us was the closest you’ll ever get to a mature, thoughtful, narrative and the show was way better than the game anyway. Fuck Anon.

I was gonna make a sarcastic comment about how video games can psychologically invoke stronger emotions for a lot of people mainly because of the interactivity, but I gotta go with the other reply to this comment.

          You’re a fucking dumbass.
