Weren’t they the only contender to hold the event? What else would you do? Doing things got so expensive that countries don’t look at holding events the same as before.

Only earlier this month Indonesia was in talks to co-host with Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. Malaysia basically said no we’re not interested to host right now, and Aus pulled out today. Not sure where Indonesia are at now.
Other SE Asia countries were proposing a bid that hasn’t happened. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have shown interest to host but no bid.
Which only leaves Saudi…

Now all FIFA has to do is find a way of prohibiting Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Israel, USA and Azerbaijan from qualifying.
