We know she’s struck a deal with Ansurok, the Queen of Azj’kahet, to collect the leftover blood of the Old Gods scattered about the world, using the stockpile of Galakrond’s Essence contained in her artifact to turn the Nerubians into hyper-evolved killing machines in exchange, and that it’s mostly unclear as to what reason she’s pooling it all together.

However, I do have a current working theory:

She’s the Final Old God, the Fifth that was consumed by her siblings before she was allowed to gain any power, and her plan is to “pick apart” her essence from the blood of her siblings to recreate her “true” body while absorbing the power of her brothers in the process, using her newfound power to open the way for the Void Lords to invade Azeroth.

Bits of evidence I’ve noted that support this are

  1. A Fifth Old God is pretty much common knowledge at this point, and there’s an in-game lore bit that mentions an account of a Fifth Old God that was consumed by the others.
  2. Xal’atath speaks of the other Old Gods as if they’re her *equals*, not her masters. She refers to N’zoth as “the weakest of us.” Another quote of hers that lends credence to her being the Fifth is as follows: “We may face some of my brethren in this conflict… a prospect that delights me. Their power will be mine! They will pay for what was done to me long ago.” This seems to imply that she holds a grudge against them, and it’s logical to assume she was the Fifth that was torn apart and devoured millennia past.
  3. Another bit of evidence lies in an old piece of concept art from a while back, which depicts the Old Gods wreathing themselves around their creations and the Black Empire, with C’thun in the center and Y’shaarj, N’zoth and Yogg-Saron lining the borders… However, there’s a fifth Old God on the upper right corner we’ve not seen yet, which I assume is Xal’atath’s “True” body from before she was eaten by the others. The concept art can be found here:

As for Xal’atath’s plan after she regains her true form? That’s the fun part:

She intends to die; deceiving us into killing her and using herself as a living sacrifice to open the way for the Void Lords to conquer Azeroth. Considering the idea being that her plan is to regain her true body while absorbing the power of the other four from their blood, it’d be reasonable to assume that a cataclysmic, Void-aligned fallout would follow her demise. The reason I have for believing this to be the case is something Il’gynoth stated long ago:

“At the hour of her third death, she will usher in our coming.”

Xal’atath has “died” twice.

Once when she was consumed by the other Old Gods, and again when she was used up to defeat the Burning Legion at the end of Legion.

I’m imagining her prophesied “third death” will happen in the final Raid Tier of TWW, once she’s reclaimed her true body and is able to levy her full power on preparing the way for her masters in the Void.

She doesn’t intend to defeat the player. She’s a zealot who intends to give everything of herself to bring her gods into Azeroth, setting the stage for the Void Lords and their armies to lay siege to Quel’thalas in Midnight.

Of course, absolutely none of this is confirmed, and it’s overall just wild speculation.

But it’s a *plausible* path for things to go considering the bits and pieces of evidence we’ve had laid out to us over time, and the prospect of the plot playing out in this fashion is exciting to me.
