The irony of what happened today has me laughing and cringing at the same time. After a great lunch with family at a restaurant, I was excited to get my step-daughter some driving practice at a nearby State Park. We got into my car and, at the first turn to leave the restaurant, I saw a pedestrian trying to cross. So I put my car into Reverse to give him some room. He yelled “Look out!!” and CRUNCH… I backed up into a car. Right at the very beginning of a driving lesson. I should have checked my mirror but wrongly assumed nobody was behind me.

Thankfully, the driver was calm about the situation, I admitted fault and we peacefully exchanged insurance info without issue. “I guess we’re starting today’s lesson with how to handle an accident,” I said, and we had a good laugh about it once everyone was situated. But I’m still cringing hard about it every hour or so.

I’m thinking next week’s lesson will be Yield signs and how to execute a proper multi-vehicle pileup maybe? Suggestions welcome.

TL;DR: I got in a fender bender literally two minutes into a driving lesson where I was the instructor.
