I would genuinely feel robbed as an AZ fan. Villa was doing nothing until the 1-1 and it gave them the fire to keep going.
Of course putting a Portuguese referee on a match of a Dutch club can’t go wrong. It most certainly hasn’t gone wrong before with dodgy calls /s
Congrats Villa, but this referee was a decisive element which should get fired.
I mean considering our first goal after 3 minutes shouldn’t have disallowed and AZ’s goal looked offside even after the lines were drawn.
Let’s get some context here. You didn’t get screwed any less than us in the end. The reffing was just bad all round. (As per usual)
Par for the course in the Conference League. I don’t remember if this is your first season in it but it’s our third and the level of refereeing (in the early games at least) is bordering on scandalous.
I mean the referee at your place was by the far best referee in a match villa have played in since being promoted.
Nice to come back and win after going behind. Only need a draw against Warsaw to confirm qualification though I’d rather top the group to avoid the dropping Europa teams.
Great result for us. Let’s hope for at least 1 point in next two games, or maybe AZ losing some points in Mostar
You’ll have to beat AZ and not lose to Villa at villa park to guarantee top of the group, so unless your goal is to finish 2nd seems like a bad result.
pundits are calling it ridiculous that the VAR can’t correct a wrongly given corner.
Of course now that a goal comes from it it’s obvious, but yeah, it must hurt for AZ.
Villa literally lost a cup final vs city on a wrongly given corner it’s bloody ridiculous.
Atleast beat Legia now, Villa. You owe us that.
Can someone explain to me how the first goal was disallowed for offside? I only saw the highlights. The corner kick taker *was* in an offside position, but isn’t there that stupid rule that if an opposing play actively plays the ball (like the defender who cleared it off the line) then it nullifies the offside?
The answer is Bailey wasn’t offside and the team has been told as such
Also Villa were the team where this ruling really became apparent (in a very different situation where rodri came from an offside position to tackle mings as he controlled the ball - which obviously should be offside and in the future wouldn’t be) but any deliberate playing of the ball nullifies offside. Plus Bailey didn’t even gain advantage from the offside position so it really was a double whammy here.
