Akshully, I think Ballarat is a hotbed of foxhunting - in cars that is. Where one vehicle is the fox, and the other vehicles attempt to track it and the fox vehicle to escape. Requires some serious hardware on the vehicle to monitor locations etc. There are clubs for it.
I always wondered what radios they are running with antennas that long. Is it HF for better long range communication as UHF (What a normal CB uses) a full wave antenna is only around 70cm.

I don’t think anyone is running around with HF?. It seems the longer antenna as pictured would be a UHF for longer distance over flat terrain.
Ah, so higher gain and better for long flat distances. Makes sense.
