Simple question, really. I’ve noticed a lot of posts being upvoted but seemingly getting no engagement. I’ve even watched the view count of things I’ve posted remain static despite the upvotes here.
So are bots being used to upvote posts to make them seem more popular?
Ohhh yeah. Downvote bomb too. Always take the votes with a grain of salt. I mean, this is the internet. Standard rules apply.
I know youtube was affected by it. They made efforts to fix the upvoting but never the downvoting.
Most of my comments get one singular downvote, even if they’re completely innocous. I cannot imagine a person being petty enough to manually do it, so yeah, I imagine, some bot or rogue instance is involved.
Bots can be made to do anything a user can do, my dude.
Thanks for the reply! I personally feel bots should be limited in their actions.
Well it’s not like anyone has a say in it. All actions can be automated overall
There are bot labels for Lemmy accounts
That work on the honour system, so the bots can choose to not self-identify.
Bots can upvote.
If that’s the case I feel that disappointing.
There is an issue on repo to prevent it.
Sorry, whats repo?
Lemmy’s source repo: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy
