    This isn’t bad, but I was honestly confused by the claim that cyberpunk fiction didn’t expect the rise of China’s economic and social system.

    The theme of the West getting essentially colonized by the East economically is one of the most prevalent cyberpunk tropes of all time.

    I should say, btw, that I also think the trope is lazy and xenophobic. But it’s certainly not absent.

      The classic cyberpunk trope is about 1980ties Japan though, which is culturally quite distinct from today’s “communist” China.
