Hello, yesterday I installed LineageOS 21 on my phone. It seems like everything is working fine, except that when I open a video with the official YouTube app or using ReVanced, after a few seconds, the video image freezes, but the audio continues. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a solution? In the meantime, I’m using Tubular, and it works fine. Thank you
I only ever use Tubular which, as you say, works fine.
Are you running a VPN? Or a DNS adblock? Maybe the official YouTube app can tell you’re doing that (or not running some background Google service) & is trying to punish you?
One other thought: could it be related to hardware acceleration? Is there a setting somewhere where you can turn on/off access to hardware acceleration for certain apps? If so, maybe the official YouTube app had it turned off?
No, i am not using VPN or DNS at the moment. I can’t find any hardware acceleration config either. I’m starting to think it may be due to some problem with MindTheGapps
Did you dirty flash over an existing build? Sometimes libraries change behavior between major versions, and your installed apps are still expecting the old behavior.
You could try uninstalling and reinstalling YouTube, see if that helps?
Maybe relevant, maybe not but I have a video streaming app for live video from IP cams that started acting up after I upgraded to LOS21. It kept crashing and force closing after a few seconds of video from the 4k cameras. Eventually the app popped up a toast telling me to uninstall it and reinstall from the Play Store. I did as it suggested and its been pretty stable since.
I’ve also noticed my Nvidia Shield has been freezing on YouTube co tent a bit more often lately, and that uses all stock code, no mods at all. Maybe YouTube are making changes served side, and its just coincidental…
I have updated LineageOS 20 to 21, and I have reinstalled the GApps that I had before. I have tried reinstalling the YouTube app several times, with different versions, and also using ReVanced, but the issue persists. I am starting to think that the problem may be with the GApps (https://github.com/MindTheGapps/14.0.0-arm64/releases/tag/MindTheGapps-14.0.0-arm64-20231025_234300 | https://gitlab.com/MindTheGapps/vendor_gapps/-/tree/41dd4da7f8afb75761c3e55ede27859f352d6881), perhaps due to some incompatibility or incorrect installation.
Is it all videos? What if you knock down the resolution?
I wonder if the GPU driver isn’t bugged somehow.
Yeah, happens with all videos. And now that I’ve noticed, the phone seems to be slow. The volume up and down animation goes at about a few fps.
What’s your build? Things have been generally OK for me on the 240215 nightly build for dumpling.
21-20240216-NIGHTLY-polaris. Its a xiaomi mi mix 2s
There’s at least one media bug alreafy filed for lineage-21 for Polaris
https://gitlab.com/LineageOS/issues/android/-/issues/5752
Not forgetting this is the first production build for this release, there are bound to be bugs. If you’re able to consistently recreate the issue, it might be worth filing a bug report. This would certainly seem to qualify
lineage-21.0-20240222-nightly-polaris fixed it, its working now :D
Does Libretube app have the same behaviour?
Works fine
This might be hard to track down if it isn’t recreatable with free software. For all we know, Google could be doing this deliberately
lineage-21.0-20240222-nightly-polaris fixed it, its working now :D
