For context, I’ve been a fan since midway through the 2007/08 season. As such I’ve been pretty fortunate not to see too many actively bad Capitals teams. At the same time I’ve also seen them clutch defeat from the jaws of victory more times than I’d care to admit.

As such. Joel Ward Vs Boston was my favourite moment for an awful long time.

Washington had absolutely no business winning that series. They were down their two starting goalies and had to rely on this kid from Hershey in net. They were unfavored against the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins and had Dale Hunter behind the bench.

Somehow, despite all that they kept themselves alive and then it happened. Joel Ward makes himself a Capitals legend buy sticking one behind Tim Thomas in overtime.

Boston goes home. Washington moves on.

What about you?

Rod Langway’s OT playoff goal against the Rangers in 1990. I was watching the game at a friends house since we didn’t have cable. When the game went to overtime my friend and I picked who we thought would score the winner, I sarcastically picked Langway…I was right…he was my favorite player growing up.

It was a good year, the first time the Caps made it to the conference finals.
