So I decided to replace my lead acid 12v batteries with lithium a few weeks ago and besides a bunch of error codes that had to be cleared I’ve had no problems so far. I’ve decided to keep the old batteries in the frunk just in case scenario…If anyone has how to questions only im glad to try to help. I’ll try to update my experience after a few more months including cold weather experience after the winter season.
What lithium batteries did you end up going with?
I’ve seen mixed reports in the past about the Ohumu ones and know with some scenarios in Tesla vehicles they could lead to early failures of the Power Conversion System with the way they cut power instead of allowing a float charge like the system is expecting. Curious if any of the same concerns translate over to the Rivian architecture.
I went with the ohmmu batteries. I’ve been testing the batteries at the terminals and using the Bluetooth readings to monitor the state of charge. They seem to be maintaining a 13.4 volt state of charge. They never seem to feel too warm like battery feel when over charging.
Are you able to pull power off it directly to feed other things such as a dash cam or even add a 12v outlet into the frunk (since the newer deliveries no longer have one? Or does on board computer get mad? I recall with Tesla. Pulling power direct off the 12v caused panic in the car.
I haven’t tried this but any interruption in power will set of lots of error codes. From my limited experience they can usually be cleared by a reset.
