Some comments and votes from my posts on lemmy.world/c/news aren’t showing up.
This what appears from my account
And this from lemmy.world
Lemmy.world has had endless issues with federation since upgrading to 0.19. It seems there are (right now) 97 instances where Lemmy.world is behind on sending outgoing federation.
We don’t seem to have got any of their new posts for the last 12 hours or so. I’ll flick someone from Lemmy.world a message and see if they are aware.
It seems it may be related to this new bug report: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/4529
Basically when you get a steady stream of federation requests, at some point Lemmy can’t keep up because of how each inbound federation triggers outbound requests to get other details. And they are run sequentially, so slow requests block the rest of the inbound federation requests as there’s no queue.
It’s slowly crawling along sending us updates but it’s about 12 hours behind and may not catch up until the other side of the world goes to bed.
Plus it seems it has been getting much worse each day, now it has reached the point of being a problem, I’m hoping tomorrow is not a disaster 😐
Thanks Dave, I didn’t realise that was the issue 😂

Yeah I just checked ‘All’ posts, there are not many top ‘Active’ posts from lemmy.world as usual
If you go to the link I posted above, look for the “lagging” instances, and find Lemmy.nz, you can see the last update.
It’s about 14 hours behind, and getting worse. But it’s not just us, Lemmy.world are looking into it.
You might not be federated with the users that voted and/or commented. World is a big instance with loads of instances federated.
They could also be users from blocked instances on your local instance. Or blocked users on your local instance.
They might even be people you personally blocked. But I’m not sure if it shows up like this.
It shouldn’t matter if we are federated with the users/voters so long as we haven’t blocked the instance (which is unlikely, we block very few). The instance the community is hosted on is responsible for sending all content from that community to subscribers’ instances, so if we have at least one person subscribed we should see all content we haven’t actively blocked.
TBH I’m also not sure how content shows when you’ve personally blocked the user or instance rather than it being instance blocking.
Alright. I stand corrected. I apparently know less about the workings of lemmy than I thought. Thanks for the information!
For what it’s worth, aussie.zone had some issues with this a few months ago and the mod discovered and used a workaround for a bug, as noted here.
