Here’s a story that’s not exactly fresh to metroDetroit™ ears. Even though the squinternet facilitates the diffusion of breaking news across the globe, it’s apparently taken around three or four days before news site, The Hill, had gotten wind of this particuar item. It’s also taken me a few days to weigh the circumstances and I still haven’t come to a satisfying conclusion.

Hence, I go before the subscribers and readers of c/Detroit and ask you, the “common man” or woman or whatever you consider yourselves, the vox populi, your opinion on the termination of employment of “Taylor Prepatory [sic] High School” history teacher Ms Domonique Brown, AKA aspiring rap artist “Drippin[1] Honey” (NSFW definition below).

In case you either missed the local broadcasts or are not familiar with this news item…

…and Ms Brown’s YouTube page—yeah, I know I’m feeding into all the surrounding hype but y’all gotta forge an informed opinion before letting your mouths enter the conversation…

Meh…interesting to note some of the comments from the YouTube videos. Also of interest, Ms Brown was awarded from Taylor Prep “Teacher of The Month.” So, there’s that. Then again, much as I wished some would have, none of my high school teachers ever twerked in a bikini for me, much less on on-demand video. I had to on-demand that for mys…oh—ahem—sorry.

There’s no denying that there’s a whole lot of compartmentalizing goin’ on here.

As of today’s writing, as far as my crack research team has uncovered, Ms Brown has not yet actually filed a suit against the Taylor charter school.

Your thoughts, c/Detroit? Please keep it semi-intelligent, thank you. That’s all I ask of you, my darlings.

Preface: somebody please correct me if I’m wrong. I know that the term honeydripper has been softened over time to mean “sweet talker,” the verb honey dripping hence “to sweet talk,” but dripping honey?

NSFW/NC-17 As-politely-as-I-can definition:

Dripping honey: vaginal secretion from sexual arousal?

  1. couldn’t afford the “g”, I guess. ↩︎

Why can’t teachers get respectable side jobs like mine did when I was a kid, like bagging groceries?

Seriously though, she was highly regarded by her colleagues and students and was awarded Teacher of the Month, so clearly she was doing things right and it appears that she was able to keep both sides of her life a comfortable distance from one another. They’re throwing the baby out with the bath water in a time when good teachers are harder to find, we can’t afford to lose more of them.

That’s because they know how highly valued she is and they wouldn’t want to increase a teachers pay when they could instead line their own pockets with that money. It’s an on going issue nationwide. After I left high school they let every single beloved teacher go and replaced them all with lower paid ones. The next budget meeting someone from the community asked them why the SI got a pay raise of $15k but they ended the meeting without an answer this was 10 years ago and now the position is nearly matched with the high schools entire budget…
