I can’t get over the levels that slow things down.
Marble Zone is alright until you’re standing on those slow lava blocks. Feels like a beta Hill Top Zone.
Spring Yard Zone has those elevator block things, and feels like a beta Casino Night Zone.
Labyrinth Zone is just a slog every time I play it.
Green Hill Zone and Star Light Zone are perfect, though. So they had the right idea. They just tried to mix things up with the gameplay, and learned from their lessons after the first game.
All fair points. I just wish they hadn’t slowly stripped away all the reasons to try to hold onto a decent quantity of rings. In Sonic 1 it was the biggest optional challenge; either shit your way to the end getting hit and grabbing at least one as it bounces out of you, or try to finish the level with 50 in order to have a chance at the “true ending”.

That’s true! I think my favourite method of getting the emeralds is the hidden rings, though.
There’s the ring bonus if you need extra lives from points, I guess…Haha
