I had never even heard of Gitea before a new client showed us that that was how they were managing their code. I needed to figure out how it worked to be able to answer some questions and was able to get a new instance up, running, configured, and proxied through a cloudflare tunnel in just a few minutes. It all seemed very smooth and sensible to me and I’ll think about it for a “real” project later.

Once forgejo finally gets federation support, gitea will probably either become unimportant or have to implement it too.

But that’s probably a year or more out, unfortunately.
