Bloat means the tendency of technology to inflate with features and legacy content and scope and use cases and flashy effects to the point of causing technical issues, security problems, wasteful data consumption and a lack of design direction and usability.

This applies to both web bloat, application bloat and operating system bloat as well as related phenomena.
