This is the practical outcome in a system where voters are forced to vote for the least problematic candidate out of a pool of two preselected politicians. Nothing will change, administration after administration, until the people are allowed to select their own candidates and the media promotes more candidates than just the big two.

Side note: a lot of people right now will be knee-jerking and wanting to respond to me that that’s what the primary system is for. Wilding v. DNC Services Corp and the Democratic primaries that caused it should disabuse anyone of that notion. And trust me, if the Democrats are dirty dealing so are the Republicans.

Uh, yeah. Just wish it was literally anyone else.

But there are literally zero people who I genuinely think are worse than Trump and also a viable candidate at this point.

And there’s literally one person (of who I am not a fan for a lot of reasons) who is a viable candidate to run against Trump: Biden.

I hate our system, but it’s the system we’re forced to use. Hopefully we can change it in the future, if we survive this election.

Vote for the Nazi or the other guy? Hmmm what’s my gay Jewish ass to do? Quite the conundrum!

I’d vote for anyone who wasn’t Trump, essentially, and I’m not excited about Biden but I don’t really have a say in the matter.

TBH, I support him more now than I did in the 2020 election, having seen him in office. He’s working the system to get some stuff done, even with the clown show congress he is presiding over. Is he perfect? No. But no elected official is ever going to be perfectly aligned with what everyone wants, unfortunately. Maybe we can get AOC to run in 2028?

But yes, the alternative of Trump basically dismantling the government and replacing it with some crazed shitshow is definitely a motivating factor too.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

More than half of Joe Biden’s supporters are primarily motivated to cast their vote for the president in order to prevent a return of Donald Trump to the White House, according to a new poll.

The poll comes as the Biden campaign has ramped up its rhetoric in attacking Trump directly in recent weeks, pointing to the former president’s felony conviction and string of past controversies.

The outcome of this year’s presidential election remains in the balance, with the new CBS poll finding Biden and Trump are essentially tied nationally and in key swing states.

Trump has enjoyed an edge over Biden in most polls taken in recent months, although there is some evidence of a slight shift towards the president in the wake of his predecessor’s felony conviction.

Trump, who faces three other felony trials for hoarding classified documents and for trying to subvert the 2020 election, is tentatively scheduled to be sentenced in the New York case on 11 July.

While Trump has enjoyed a fundraising surge from supporters following the trial, the poll found that just 14% of his voters are backing him because of his conviction, with the vast majority saying it isn’t a factor for them.
