A diplomatic source told CNN the Hamas response “contained amendments to the Israeli proposal, including a timeline for a permanent ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.”

A senior US administration official told CNN that “the goalposts are moving,” in Hamas’ response, and the group “is now pressing for even greater specificity than it did before.”

Did they think no questions would be asked or details were needed?

Sources in Hamas told Haaretz that “The amendments that were submitted are intended to ensure that the withdrawal and cease-fire be established in the first phase, and that Israel will not be able to evade the implementation of all stages of the deal and return to fighting once all the hostages are released.”

How dare they want to ensure a ceasefire actually happens

Their details are another word for demands. They are still demanding a permanent ceasefire at the outset. Biden’s plan called for a negotiated permanent ceasefire in Phase 2. In addition, they want to substitute dead bodies for Phase 1 hostage release.

I’m more interested in the process. Hamas has demanded a permanent ceasefire and withdrawal since the beginning, and it has been rejected every time. Biden’s plan called for a temporary ceasefire leading to a negotiated permanent one. And that would be guaranteed by the US. Bliken has to make lemonade from lemons. Glad it’s him and not me.

Why do you anyone is mad at you? It’s frustration that the US continues to do this exact routine and now hilarious blinkin is angry he has to actually do work

A lot of diplomacy at that level is theatre. Everyone is an actor in some sense. Blinken successfully completed secret negotiations with Iran in the 5 State agreement that Trump tore up, so he’s pretty good at it.

His background is national security not diplomacy.

Source on him being the reason it was successful? That’d be impressive for a non diplomat to be the one to do it as he was Bidens national security advisor at the time
