those damn pesky focused parrying and blocking beasts they hit so many damn times, parry and block heck they even parry the supposedly “guaranteed to hit” duelist special weapon ability attacks like glaive’s “spike”, i hate them so much smh
Bait the parry, then surprise attack them through a door or around a corner.
hmm, good idea but i just don’t like the idea of calling the weapon abilities “guaranteed to hit” when they aren’t
Other monk tip:
Plant or throw a poison seed or similar Damage over gizmo in their path then just kite them while they go down.
When they’re almost dead, you can finish them with a wand, which they don’t dodge. If no wand, just trade hits to break the parry on the first hit, stage the surprise attack for the second hit.The monk parry only happens when they’re “focused”, breaks after a hit, and takes a few turns to recharge.
What would you call them then? “Guaranteed to hit except for parry”?
“generally/typically guaranteed to hit”
That’s a weasel word though. It basically means “not guaranteed to hit”, which is every other physical attack in the game. It’s ambiguous and doesn’t communicate anything useful to the player.
What “guaranteed to hit” is trying to communicate is that the attack roll is bypassed so that it succeeds automatically. Unfortunately, the way this interacts with parry is that it is “guaranteed to block” the attack. Unstoppable force meets immovable object! Well in this case, immovable object is pre-ordained to win.
Can’t be dodged? Guaranteed to land (can still be parried)?
It is ambigous in the current form.
Someone clearly hasn’t read the effect description of ‘focused’. It is pretty clear that it will block an attack even if the attack is otherwise guaranteed to hit, which includes surprise attacks and duelist abilities.
Managed to get a thorn enchantment the other day. Didn’t have any problems with Monks anymore.
You would have loved them in the original Pixel Dungeon
i totally do love my weapon getting knocked out of my hand
