Demsā€™ ā€œweirdā€ attacks are getting under Trumpā€™s skin. ā€œOf course heā€™s upset,ā€ a source toldĀ Rolling Stone

As Democrats continueĀ theirĀ rhetorical strategyĀ of trash-talkingĀ Donald Trump, his running mate J.D. Vance, and other ā€œweirdā€ and ā€œcreepyā€ conservative policymakers attempting to thrust the country into the dark ages, the former president has become increasingly furious at the messaging overtaking media outlets and internet memes.

During a Thursday interview with conservative radio host Clay Travis, Trump attempted to reverse the criticism and said that Democrats were ā€œthe weird ones.ā€ He insisted, ā€œNobodyā€™s ever called me weird. Iā€™m a lot of things, but weird Iā€™m not. And Iā€™m upfront. And heā€™s not either, I will tell you. J.D. is not at all. They are.ā€

ā€œWeā€™re not weird people,ā€ Trump added. ā€œWeā€™re weā€™re actually just the opposite.

How weird that theyā€™re so weird about being called ā€œweirdā€.

But seriously, it seems like Republicans need to think theyā€™re in the majority. ā€œSilent majorityā€ and all that BS. Calling them ā€œweirdā€ makes them confront how much of an outlier they are. Maybe thatā€™s part of the source of their deep insecurity about being called ā€œweird.ā€ Maybe also just the desire to not feel like the unpopular kids in highschool.

Boomers simply canā€™t handle criticism, especially when it comes from people they openly disdain like minorities, LGBTQ or young people. They canā€™t handle it. But yeah, being called weird seems to tap into some deep insecurity they have. Nooo, Iā€™m the norm! Iā€™m supposed to be the default experience. You canā€™t call us weird!

I think this particular jab hits home for Trump a lot harder than anyone else due to the narcissism. It may also apply to conservatives in general but I donā€™t think itā€™s necessarily a widely applicable generalization.
