And it’s worth noting: the other boxer had nothing to do with this. She withdrew from the fight because she took a hit to the nose and she thought something felt wrong so she withdrew for her own wellbeing. All the crap saying she was afraid of the other boxer was made up by the fash.
Which I 116% support. I hate seeing athletes continue to play when they’re injured. There’s so much pressure, especially at something as prestigious and important as the Olympics. When I was a kid I watched my friends in Gymnastics compete on sprained or even broken ankles and wrists. Just kids, you know? 16? 17? And their body fat percentage is so low they’ve stopped menstruating, they’re taped up so injured bones and ligaments can bear their weight, and while they were very motivated, they’ve also got all these coaches and parents pressuring them to go out, perform, win these trophies. Same with football kids getting their brains mashed up, soccer kids ripping their ACLs apart. I really dislike competitive sport because it puts so much pressure on young people to destroy themselves and as hard core as a lot of those kids are, a lot of them are doing it because they think they have to.
I really hope kids see that and think "Well if she can choose to put her safety and wellbeing before “winning” at the olympics I can tell my coach to shut up and sit down at this bush league high school competition when I’m injured.

Tagging on this: her nose had been injured previously to this match so she was worried that it was re-injured
