“U.S. Customs volunteer firefighter Michael Saber drinks water from a fire hydrant in the rubble of the World Trade Center towers. (Yoni Brook for The Washington Post)”

I could find no information online about Saber or his story, other than a claim from a dubious Facebook page that he had passed. At present time, around 80,000 first responders and rescue crew from 9/11 are being monitored for health effects from the toxic dust on 9/11, at least 3000 are estimated to have died

The way all these people just ran to help, guys who hadn’t been firefighters in years walking in to the nearest station and joining the next crew going out, and the US just let them all get sick and die without care, fucking astonishing. I guess the government eventually passed some kind of aid but it was at least a decade after and parts of congress fought it the whole way.

The US doesn’t give a shit about anyone who serves it unless you’re a prominent politician. Soldiers get lip service and infinite funding, but after that you’re on your own lol. Somehow even cops get more material assistance from the government. I don’t understand how Americans acknowledge this then still willingly send their children to the military if they didn’t have to. Like you have “proud military family” for 6 generations who complain about their kid and his father having hearing problems and no VA. Americans demand you respect 9/11 victims but don’t even hold their government responsible for it happening or neglecting the people who saved the day. Pathetic country. Just monuments, speeches, and military and law enforcement grifting. No respect for anyone
