As a frequent user of Lemmy, I’ve noticed an issue that affects my browsing experience, particularly in my Subscribed feed. Currently, the platform does not allow users to view more content from specific communities they prefer over others. This limitation forces users to unsubscribe from larger communities to see more content from their favorite ones[1].

To improve the user experience, I propose the implementation of weighted community preferences. This feature would enable users to assign a weight to each community they are subscribed to, allowing them to see more content from their preferred communities in their Subscribed feed. By doing so, users can enjoy a more personalized browsing experience without having to unsubscribe from larger communities.

This feature would address the issue of larger communities dominating the Subscribed feed, which has been reported by other users as well[1:1]. By giving users the ability to control the prominence of specific communities in their feed, Lemmy can foster a more engaging and enjoyable experience for its users.

In addition to weighted community preferences, it would be beneficial to explore other ways to improve the Subscribed feed, such as:

  • Implementing better sorting algorithms that take into account the user’s browsing habits and preferences[1:2].
  • Allowing users to group communities from different instances and aggregate them into a folder, as suggested in a previous discussion[2].

By addressing these issues and implementing features like weighted community preferences, Lemmy can continue to grow and provide a more satisfying experience for its users. I encourage the Lemmy development team and the community to consider these suggestions and work together to enhance the platform for everyone.

Let’s make Lemmy an even better place for our diverse interests and communities!
