Hello,

As The Dark Side of the Moon celebrates its 50th anniversary, Roger Waters has decided to re-record the album solo, adding his own personal touch and revisiting this legendary album. The first track available is Money, and the album is due for release on 6 October 2023.

For this first single Money, you will find 3 versions tested: Amazon Music UltraHD , Dolby Atmos and Qobuz Hi-Res.

The graph below compares the waveforms of the Qobuz Hi-Res version (DR8) and Amazon Dolby Atmos downmixed in stereo (DR13). Both waveforms are adjusted to the same LUFS sound level (-17.5) to better see the impact of the limiter on the stereo version.

The spectrogram of the Amazon stereo track and Qobuz Hi-Res show an extension above the 20 kHz frequency (yellow arrow). Level attenuation is greatest above 30 kHz (white arrow).

The spatialization of the Dolby Atmos version is 2.9, with a distribution mainly on the front and side channels. This is very different from the 50th anniversary Atmos mixes (spatialization 7.3) , which make much greater use of the surround and top channels, as in the original quadraphonic version.

The new Redux version of Rogers is really a new approach to The Dark Side of The Moon album, so everyone will appreciate it according to their own tastes. To listen to the first track Money, two versions are available, in high-resolution 24-bit 96 kHz stereo and in Dolby Atmos. The stereo version brings all the nuance and finesse of the Hi-Res recording, but is less dynamic than the Dolby Atmos version.

You can compare samples from the different versions and find all the measurements (waveform, spectrogram, spectrum, spatialization, etc.) here.

Enjoy listening
