So, I’m having a tough time picking between a 4070 and a 4080.
I’m only a light gamer and want it primarily for video editing and Stable Diffusion (my AMD 6700 XT is useless there). And while I know VRAM is king for AI, I’m also reluctant to spend as much as the 4080 costs for just 16GB, since I’ll probably need 24 in a couple years anyways. But, the 4090 is out of reach at this time.
I’m inclined to get the cheapest 12gb I can for now (thus why no 4070 ti - I need memory more than the extra performance) and wait until the 5000 or 6000 series has more reasonable VRAM amounts. But I also know 16GB is useful now.
Which brings me to the Zotac 4080 Gaming Trinity OC. This thing is cheap. Like $200 under the cost of the FE at Best Buy in Canada, making the 4080 more of a value. But, I also hear bad things about it - poor fan quality, noisy fans, fans cycling on at high minimum speed during idle. Noise is a huge factor for me - I want no coil whine, no fan noise, no annoying fan tones or behavior.
Is that stuff true about the model, or just overblown? Has any of it been addressed since the initial reviews? Or should I avoid?
Appreciate any experiences!
