I recently had the option of buying a lightly used 3080 12GB for $500 and made my way to Best Buy too see what options I have in the price bracket. I purchased a 4070 for $637 before seeing any reviews or benchmarks except for comparing UserBenchmark scores of my previous 2080ti vs. the new card. I did not compare the two against each other but once I did I realized how unbelievably close these cards were I returned the 4070. I wanted the upgrade of GPU for Starfield and for higher VR performance, and made this decision based on the 4k benchmarks being at least 10% faster every time. VR runs at higher resolutions than 1440p and it seemed to be the right decision as my PC is murdering any challenge I throw at it now whereas before I could barely crack 90 FPS while I have a 120hz Quest 2. Reading several posts here seem to indicate 9 out of 10 people on this sub would have recommended against a 3080 due to the 4070 being newer with Frame gen, DLSS 3, and much more power efficiency. I don’t care at all about power efficiency, and I genuinely felt as if this card was only made enticing because all the cards above it were double the price. Did I make the right decision?
