Recently left my job in gamedev and will likely be working freelance for a few months before I find my next role. As a result of leaving though I’ve also lost access to my work PC and really need to upgrade my personal PC, which is currently using a 1070 Ti.
I’m looking to spend £2k total on an upgrade, and probably £800-1.2k on the GPU, but I could be convinced to spend more if it’s worth it. The issue is, I’m not sure what I need.
I mostly model weapons right now but I’m going to be also doing some vehicles and environments for my portfolio. I use 3ds/Maya/ZBrush to model, Substance Painter/Photoshop to texture and Toolbag/UE5 to render. For my future folio work I’m probably going to be using multiple 8k materials, so I need some future proofing I imagine.
I’m eyeing up a 4070 Ti, but does anyone in the industry know if 12gb is good enough?
Some examples of my work on my profile if anyone is interested, some of those renders took fucking hours lmao, so anything is an upgrade at this point.
