My great great great grandpa is from Ararat. He migrated from there suddenly during the 1890s, or very early 1900 to a village on the other side of Turkey (Germençik). His son, my great great grandpa took the name of the City as his surname, Karaköse, as that was Ararats name back then.
I did a dna test and I was confused because I got the “Pontic Greek community”, some Greeks have told me that pontics were also present in Ararat, but I have no idea.
My great great great grandpa was a muslim, as far as I know, his name was Abdullah.
I have a picture of my great great grandpa, he looks armenoid and is extremely tall.
I hope you guys can help me out. Was my great great great grandpa an Armenian, or a pontic Greek?
The name Karaköse can be traced to an Armenian noble family, it used to be Karakilise, but like I said, I believe my great great grandpa took that name later and wasn’t affiliated with that family, but honestly I have no idea.
Thanks for reading.
