I’ve been using Windows my whole life, but I’ve used other operating systems as well, including ChromeOS, macOS, and various flavors of Linux. While macOS is a close second, I’ve always enjoyed the touchpad experience the most in Windows. I know the Linux touchpad experience is a common complaint from people, but why is the touchpad experience so much worse than Windows? In Linux/ChromeOS, the touchpad feels inaccurate, the acceleration curve is poorly calibrated, and you often overshoot or miss where you’re trying to click, like when you’re trying to close a tab, for example. The touchpad just feels jerky and the acceleration is unpredictable. While there are certainly tweaks you can make to have a better experience (particularly in Linux), it just never feels quite right.
Why does the touchpad in Windows feel so much better and more accurate?
