For the past couple weeks I’ve been trying to diagnose an issue with my nextcloud setup, even going as far as to copy all my data, download my calendars and contacts, and do a fresh install of nextcloud.

It started when I updated to 26.0.3 and received unfix-able "Internal Server Error"s. Though the website UI did not display, all my files were still synced in the background curiously. Today I’ve deleted this instance and created the same one from the start to try and fix the error.

I have a nextcloud, mariadb, redis stack running on docker compose via portainer and up until the update it worked fine. I’ve followed the same setup guide I did the last time I installed it and come repeatedly recieve “Cannot create or write into the data directory /var/www/html/data” upon trying to create my admin account.

I tried swapping the data folder over to my ssd (all the while maintaining the permission and ownership setup required) which is just a normal drive, and it worked.

I then copied the data folder over to my mergerfs setup (2TB + 4TB hard drives, I’m cheap and in college). I ensure the perms were the same and was then told that my data folder was “invalid” and I should check for a “.ocdata” file.

I found this same article with the same issue and no replies, so I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas to fix this, or will I just have to shell out for another 4TB and setup raid…
