Hello everyone! I’m looking to open a company in belgium relating to plumbing services. I’m currently a plumber in New York City, USA working as a contractor servicing commercial buildings. My friends over in belgium say it’s pretty straight forward and I just need 5k€ but they won’t give me sources. I’m looking to start a company where I’m the only employee, so sort of a freelance plumber for the first years. According to my friends, there is a shortage of plumbers in Flanders and say the embassy would be happy to let me start a company in Belgium (they make it sound like it’s a guy I can chat up with)

Would I need qualifications to start a plumbing company or certifications that I would need to start said company? Over here in New York we require licenses to touch gas lines, safety courses to be in a construction site, permit licenses to use a torch inside a building, touch sprinkler lines, etc. These are hard to find even over here unless you know the exact terminologies. Where could I find the information for this and what starting capital would I need excluding my personal work tools?

My friends tell me that Belgium has no such things regarding licenses to operate a plumbing company but I find it hard to believe. Apparently you just do a short plumbing course in high school and therefore you are a plumber…. ???
