I honestly think this goes for almost all professions, but as a programmer myself, I’m well aware AI will take my job very very soon, I’m so tired of people in my field saying AI is just a “tool” and try to compare it to a car and a horse. It’s not the same thing and never will be the same thing, I like to call it Programmer denial syndrome. places like r/learningprogramming and r/programming can’t seem to wrap their heads around the fact that they will loose their jobs eventually, there was a post on r/learningprogramming where a guy said he was concerned with AI and everybody basically just knowingly or unknowingly gaslighted him saying it’s simply a tool and it won’t take his job and this and that, now do I want this guy to stay sad or worried? Of course not, but I’m definitely not going to tell someone it’s just a tool and make them think there’s no threat. There’s not much we can do, but being aware is the first step and it seems like programmers have some of the biggest Ego’s I’ve ever seen next to Architects and Artist. Why are people so in denial about AI?
